Who needs an ETA for the United Kingdom?
The ETA requirement depends on nationality, UK immigration status and the purpose of the visit. Check each traveller’s situation before applying.
Information checked against official GOV.UK resources.
Many nationalities are covered
Citizens of many countries and territories can currently apply, including France and many other European countries, the United States, Canada, Australia, Israel and Japan.
The list may change. Check the rules for the nationality shown on your passport at the time of travel.
Who generally does not need an ETA?
You do not need an ETA when travelling with a British or Irish passport. People already permitted to live, work or study in the UK generally do not need an additional ETA.
If you hold a valid UK visa or another permission to enter or stay, check the rules for that status rather than automatically applying for an ETA.
Check every family member individually
When an ETA is required, each traveller needs their own authorisation, including babies and children. There is no single family ETA.
You can nevertheless apply for another traveller.
Nationality is not the only criterion: your UK status and purpose of travel can change the authorisation you need.
