UK ETA for children and babies
Being under 18 does not remove the ETA requirement: in a family subject to it, each child generally needs their own authorisation.
Information checked against official GOV.UK resources.
Do children need their own ETA?
Yes. When their nationality and journey require an ETA, every person needs their own authorisation, including babies and children. There is no family ETA automatically covering everyone.
Can a parent apply?
You can apply on behalf of someone else. If the child is not with the person applying, the online process allows use of a passport photo and facial photo.
For very young children, some biometric steps in the official app are adapted to their age.
Check the child’s passport
As with adults, a child’s ETA is linked to the passport used to apply. They must travel with that document, and a new application may be needed if the passport is replaced.
Check each traveller individually, even when the whole family travels together.
