UK ETA and Eurostar: prepare your journey

Travelling to the United Kingdom by train does not remove the ETA requirement. Check the required authorisation before boarding.

Information checked against official GOV.UK resources.

ETA rules also apply to train journeys

Entering the UK on Eurostar does not exempt you when an ETA is required for your nationality and circumstances. The authorisation is linked to you and your passport, not the transport company.

Checks for travel to the UK can take place before boarding. Obtain the required authorisation before departure.

Which passport should you use?

Travel with the same passport used to obtain the ETA. If you renewed or replaced it, a new ETA may be required.

Every traveller covered by the requirement needs their own ETA, including children.

Prepare a Paris–London journey

Check your nationality’s requirements, passport validity and ETA status. Do not confuse the ETA validity period with the permitted length of each stay.

If the journey involves several countries or passports, use the rules for the document you intend to enter the UK with.

Key points
