UK ETA and dual nationality: which passport should you use?
With dual nationality, choose the passport you intend to travel with before checking your ETA requirements.
Information checked against official GOV.UK resources.
An ETA is linked to one specific passport
An approved ETA is electronically associated with the passport used to apply. To use it, you must travel with that same passport.
Before applying, choose the passport you genuinely plan to travel with.
What if one nationality is British or Irish?
British and Irish citizens do not need an ETA, but must comply with the documentary rules for those citizens when travelling.
If neither nationality exempts you, check eligibility for the passport you will use.
Do not mix documents during the process
Application details must match the passport the ETA will be linked to. Inconsistency between the application document and the travel document can prevent correct verification.
If the chosen passport is renewed, check whether a new ETA is needed.
With dual nationality, base your checks on the passport you will actually use to travel to the UK.
